It’s an unfortunate fact: Dentistry has a bad reputation for causing pain. Many people are afraid to go to the dentist because they think it will be a painful experience. However, those days are a thing of the past. Here at Dr. Johnston’s office, we use a variety of techniques to practice painless dentistry.
For most people, painless dentistry is practiced by numbing the gums before a local anesthetic is applied. While this is fine for most, the anxiety of going to the dentist’s office does not make this the best option for all.
Fortunately, we have many other methods of practicing painless dental procedures. For those who experience a lot of anxiety when they go to the dentist, we will administer a calming oral medication that will help make stress-free dental options possible.
These calming medications leave patients conscious and able to respond to questions from the dentist, but they completely relax the patient and make the experience quite pleasant. The sights, smells and other sensory inputs are severely diminished for the patient, making it almost seem like a dream.
Another technique we use at Dr. Lamar Johnston’s office is administering nitrous oxide to our patients. Commonly known as “laughing gas,” nitrous oxide is one of the most powerful means of sedating patients and ensuring stress-free dental options.
Once the gas is administered, the patient will be much more relaxed and able to tolerate the dental procedure. It also becomes much easier for patients who have a fear of injections to undergo the administration of a local anesthetic when they are under the calming influence of nitrous oxide.
In this day and age, there is no reason for patients to avoid coming in to see the dentist because they are afraid of experiencing pain. We use a wide array of techniques to ensure that all of our patients experience painless dental procedures.
You don’t need to be anxious about coming in to see Dr. Johnston at Johnston Dental Care in Ruston, LA. We will work with you to find the best stress-free dental options to ensure that you enjoy painless dentistry. If it has been awhile since you have been to the dentist, come in and talk with us to find out how relaxing and stress-free a trip to the dentist can be.
